Maureen swings out of BBN

Ebuka, who is a lawyer, had not been nominated until his rival Katung made it known that he saw Ebuka as a fierce contender in the house. When host of the show, Olisa Adibua made the announcement, Maureen became the fifth housemate to leave the show, after spending close to a month in the Big Brother Nigeria house. And as she made her way out through the carved wooden doors of the BBN house, she bade farewell to the nine remaining BBN housemates and the show’s US$ 100 000 grand prize. Her sweetness and psychological theories could not save her from the wrath of the viewers across Africa who disliked her high-pitched laugh, her romantic entanglements and her alleged laziness. She leaves her other half ‘ Gideon ‘ behind wondering what may have been, but in her absence will he move onto other things? Their romance had become one of the most talked about affairs and many thought it was a match made in heaven. Sometimes the voters were too harsh such that they only saw it as nothing but a “fake” childish game. Michelle who co-presents the show with Olisa introduced the week’s Highlights, beginning with Joan’s grand exit and the Housemates’ reaction to her departure. But excitement in the crowd was high as fans came to watch their “next celebrity” coming out of the house. But then: crunch time came when the audience decided the fate of two nominees Maureen and Ify up for possible eviction. It was Maureen and she made her way to the stage like a cat-walk queen. Olisa asked Maureen why she cried so much in the House and Maureen replied that she cried to express feelings ‘ happiness and sadness. “But you weren’t crying when Gideon kissed you!” Olisa reminded her. And who was her least favourite Housemate? Before this week, Ify was her least favourite Housemate, she said. Maureen found that Ify reminded her too much of the cameras. Her favourite housemate was, of course, Gideon. She watched the replay of the housemates nominating her but was not surprised at all. Her favourite BBN experience was their Soap Opera Task. About her life after BBN, Maureen intends to go into acting ‘ the Nollywood style. As for her future with Gideon, she was not sure. But Maureen said she was being herself throughout the experience and had fun. Olisa then asked the audience to sing Happy Birthday to Maureen for her big day last Monday when she turned 24. It was a fitting end to Maureen’s eventful stay in the House. Holding a BSC in Psychology, 23-year-old Maureen loves the TV shows Friends, Oprah and Tyra. Her favourite musicians are Whitney Houston, Wyclef, Yanni and Lagbaja. She is confident that she has “great interpersonal skills”. Her role model is world-famous television talk show queen Oprah because “she’s smart, sophisticated, a philanthropist. She’s black and best of all she is a woman. Talk about Girl Power.” Maureen entered BBN “to meet people, and for a one in twelve chance of winning USD 100 000.” She relaxes by reading novels, watching movies, hanging out and cooking. And she’s thrilled to know that audiences will be watching her from around the continent. “There are a thousand and one things” she would do with the money if she won, but “the first few things would be to give my mom the best medical care she needs and to buy a house.”
