Court slaps cop with 72 years imprisonment
Henry Msinkhu to 72 years imprisonment for killing six people in a car crash in June 2007.
Judge Rowland Mbvundula ruled that Msinkhu (30) killed the six in reckless driving after he grabbed truck keys in one of Blantyre city’s high density suburbs of Mbayani and drove the vehicle until it overturned, killing the six.
The court found Msinkhu guilty on all six charges of manslaughter and sentenced him to twelve years imprisonment on each count to run concurrently.
In passing judgment Mbvundula said he had made considerations for the loss of the deceased to the national economy as they were traders ferrying their commodities when they met their fate. “It was his stubbornness and conduct that led to the accident and the accused made no attempt to assist the victims when he fled from the scene,” he said.
Mbvundula is married and has left two children.
