fundraising campaign for a comrade in need
Windhoek- The National Union of Namibian Workers and the Swapo Youth League have launched a fund to solicit financial support toward the medical expenses of Namibian music legend Jackson Kaujeua.
Kaujeua (56) is hospitalised from an undisclosed illness and is in need of financial assistance.
The National Union of Namibia Workers pledge N$5000 with the Swapo Youth League chipping in with N$ 3000.
Other contribution came from Gazza Music Production, Ogopa Butterfly Production, Ondilimani cultural production as well as from individuals.
Kaujeua is one of the best known Namibian musicians. He is a composer and gospel singer who sings in English and Namibian vernacular languages.
Growing up back in southern Africa he supported anti-apartheid struggles and was associated with the SWAPO-resistance movement.
speaking at the launch of the fundraising campaign, attended by local artists, producers as well as Kaujua family, Elijah Ngurare, the SWAPO Youth League Secretary General said: “ One cannot fully tell the story of liberation struggle without giving due regard to the contribution made by all who participated including but not limited to those brave men and women who composed and sang songs which today continue to reverberate all corners of the country and have in the most unimaginable ways, helped define the contours of the political landscape.” The financial contributions can be made to the following details: Bank Windhoek, Katutura Banch, Account number: 8002386712, Branch Code: 482972.
