Khuli Chana: Southern Africa’s Finest

South Africa rapper, Khuli Chana, scooped his first international award for Best Male Southern Africa at the African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMAs) held at the Eisemann Centre in Dallas, Texas, on July 26.

The event was attended by several African entertainment stars.

Chana, the ‘Hape le Hape’ hit maker, as the winner of the Best Male Southern Africa award, shrugged off stiff competition from fellow nominees including AKA and Donald from SA, Slap Dee from Zambia, Zeus from Botswana, Stunner form Zimbabwe, and The Dogg from Namibia.

This award was the cherry on top for Chana, who has bagged 13 local awards since 2009.

African Muzik Magazine Awards is the sole award ceremony in the Diaspora that caters to all musical genres including but not limited to: Afrobeats, Assiko, Bongo, Decale, Funana, Genge, Highlife, Hiplife, Kwaito, Lingala and Soukous.

AFRIMMA’s vision is endorsed by some of the biggest African artistes such as Fuse ODG (UK), Lira (South Africa), 2face Idibia (Nigeria), Flavour Nabania (Nigeria), Miriam Chemmoss (Tanzania) , Avril (Kenya), Afro Mask (Ghana/United Kingdom), Nonini (Kenya), Chub Heightz (Botswana) and many more.

“This event will not only celebrate the music of Africa, but celebrates the unique sounds, culture and artistes that tell the stories of our continent as a whole” said Anderson Obiagwu, Founder of AFRIMMA.

“AFRIMMA represents growth, celebration and pushing the culture and music of Africa continuously forward for the better.”

Obiagwu described the night of the awards as an amazing night of celebrating artists who have influenced and impacted the culture as well as the pioneers who laid the framework for today’s African music.

African music is currently gaining global recognition at a rapid pace and following this trend, AFRIMMA created a platform that promoted the diversity of African music by bringing influential artists from different African countries for a night of celebration.
