Star Dust evolve into Nova

WINDHOEK – Multi-award winning duo comprising of Muni Hoveka and Breanna Kandanga have re-immerged by rebranding from Star Dust to Nova.
In 2015, Nova warmed the cockles of Namibian hearts after winning the Best House, Best Reggae and Best Group/Duo awards at the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMA).
That time they were signed under Deal Done Recordz, owned by Djodic Dragan who is popularly known as Antonio in the local music circles. They have since joined Distinctive Art.
Hoveka told The Southern Times this week to the reason for transforming to Nova.
“We felt that it was time to shed old skin, that we have outgrown the name Star Dust. As people, we are ever-changing and we don’t believe in holding onto something that no longer resonates with us just because it is familiar. We had to go through this transformative process to grow as artists individually and collectively,” said Hoveka.
Breanna Kandanga explained how Distinctive Art will evolve Nova.
“Apart from creating platforms for artists, Distinctive Art embraces performing arts as well as appreciates more established art forms. Quite artistic ourselves, we felt that this management is fit to accommodate our creative needs for the modification of our brand,” said Kandanga.
The Lights hit makers are currently hard at work with new music: “We have a few hush-hush projects we are currently busy with to be released at a later stage in the year, however we will be releasing something pretty soon. Compared to the material we have previously released to the public, our supporters can expect our original sound as Nova which is more creatively expressive as we are hands on in the creative process and also we are co- producing quite a number of the tracks this time,” she said.
Antonio however, holds no grudges against the girls for leaving his stable. “Our contract expired last year and they have a new label now, but the Star Dust name is the property of Deal Done Recordz.
“If they want to keep Star Dust, I will be okay with that. They will stay my girls forever. They never pass Antonio’s Arts without greeting, that is respect,” Dragan explained. – adolfkaure14@
