Former Malawian President Joyce Banda is ready to be arrested
Former President Joyce Banda is ready to be arrested in light of the warrant of arrest that the Malawi police have issued against her.
According to her press officer, Andekuche Chanthunya, the former President will cooperate with the Malawi Police whenever they want to arrest her following the warrant which the police have obtained.
According to Chanthunya, they are yet to receive the warrant despite the issue going hot on local media but he assured Malawians that the former president will cooperate when all proper procedures are followed.
He said police have not yet made any formal communication on the matter. Chanthunya yesterday visited police headquarters in Lilongwe to gather information on the case only to be frustrated.
He was quoted as telling a local radio station that while at the headquarters, he was being directed from office to office. The former president’s mouthpiece went on to say that he did not even meet National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera.
Malawi’s first female president is subject to the arrest warrant over her alleged involvement in the massive looting of public resources dubbed cashgate, during her tenure of office. She left the country having surrendered her presidency to Democratic Progressive Party’s Peter Mutharika in 2014.
Since her departure, she has been a wanted person as some people suspect her of having had a hand in the corruption scandal.-Malawi24
