New 2010 World Cup strategy
The Coalition of Supporters Union of Africa (COSUA) is mobilising support for the six African teams that will be in action at the next World Cup.
“COSUA provides a platform though which African fans can participate in the unique experience of staging the World Cup on home soil. We aim to make the best of this event as we may never experience it again in Africa in our life time,” says COSUA President Sarfo Abebrese.
“COSUA will mobilise fans to support all six African teams that will be in action at the next World Cup. For instance if Angola is playing they will get support from the entire continent and not just Angolan fans,” Sarfo Abebrese explained.
Abebrese says fans should to set up national unions. He describes their experience in Ghana: “We set the ball rolling by registering the Supporters Union of Ghana (SUGHA). It is recognised not just by the Ghana Football Federation but also the Sports and Foreign Affairs ministries.”
“SUGHA then becomes an affiliate of COSUA. Through COSUA fans will be better positioned to attract sponsors. Although our focus is on the World Cup, we aim to begin making an impact at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana (2008) and Angola 2010.
