Eyes can stand out with the right coloured eyeliner, so stick with this rule of thumb. Actress Nia Long (pictured) looks uber flattering; the colour purple eyeliner makes a great accent for otherwise her natural look.
Everyone has a look. From preppy to Goth to athletic, you have a look. A signature look is a distinguishing style denoting attributes of a person or group of people. A signature look is something which is uniquely personal to you and which people will recognize as typically ‘you’.
Your signature look is the flagship look of your own personal style and while fashion changes over time, style does not, and so to have a unique style will bring a consistency and unique appeal to each of your other outfits. Your signature look is the outfit people picture you wearing when they think of you.
We all like to test the waters on trends from time to time, but more often than not; we adopt a “signature” look that we find ourselves reaching for almost daily.
All weekend I was wracking my brain of what kind of styles I wear a lot. After all these years of establishing my fashion identity, I could not think of one. What in the world is my signature look? Then I realised that one of the scene-stealing beauty trends which I love and rock almost daily is the bright and colourful eyeliner.
The latest trend in liner is not a shape, though. It is all about the colour. From pops of green, teal, orange, and purple on the outer edge of the eye, there is a shade and a shape of coloured eyeliner for everyone. It is definitely bold and daring, but it is also a fun and fresh new way of doing your make-up.
Line your under eye with heavy eyeliner for a great anytime look: day or night. To keep the focus on the bright coloured liner, leave your top lash line without any colour.
· Statement Lip – a statement lip is bold and impossible to ignore, but it is also a total “look” in one step.
· Natural Look – if you always opt for a natural look, then you are low-key and no-fuss, but you also know what your best features are and exactly how to play them up. You like to look like yourself, but you also like to look put-together, which is why you prefer natural makeup—foundation applied with a light hand, corrective concealer, a bit of shadow or gloss—over a bare face.
· Smoky Eyes – a smoky eye is sexy and dramatic but not over-the-top, which describes you to a tee. You do not need to be the centre of attention.
· Cat Eyes – this confidence or rather, authenticity, enhances what you are trying to express through your look and makes it all the more powerful.
Be realistic with your style and do not force a trend for example the teal and orange cat eye if it is not your thing. Know what works for you and stay within your comfort zone. To develop a signature look you really have to dig deep into your aesthetic preferences and likes and separate essential components from those that just dilute or distract. All of this digging will not only help you refine your overall personal style, but also improve your own creative awareness and confidence.
