PSL on the verge of a Nedbank Cup extension
Cape Town – Nedbank, one of South Africa’s most prominent financial services company, once again is set to continue sponsorship of South African soccer.
This time, Nedbank has agreed a new long-term deal to continue as title sponsor of the Nedbank Cup.
The Nedbank Cup is a club competition organised by South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL). It has also been established that the extension deal has not been formally announced by the PSL.
Nedbank’s head of sponsorships, Tobi Badenhorst, revealed that a new five-year agreement has been signed while delivering a pre-recorded video message at the PSL awards ceremony recently.
Badenhorst remarked that Nedbank would renew its five-year sponsorship of the PSL’s premier cup competition. Nedbank first took sponsorship of the Nedbank Cup in 2008 at a value of R400 million over five years.
In 2013, the bank then renewed its sponsorship. The PSL confirmed that the deal has been signed. “We will make a formal announcement about that. But it’s an open secret that the negotiations are complete,” the PSL confirmed.
