President to work on railway
Chairperson of the railway committee and Oshana regional councilor for Ondangwa constituency, Ismael Uugwanga confirmed this.
Uugwanga revealed that members of the railway committee would meet to determine the site where the Head of State is going to volunteer labour for the construction of the much talked about national project.
Works, Transport and Communications Deputy Minister Stephanus Mogotsi was in Ondangwa a few weeks ago to officially hand over the site of the second phase of the project to the contractors.
Brandberg, RoadHart, Nexus and Storbou are the four main construction companies to spearhead the construction of the about 60km second phase of the railway line between Ondangwa and Oshikango.
Uugwanga indicated that a number of local people were also recruited to involve in the debushing activities of the project.
Although, voluntary work was also launched on the same day Mogotsi handed over the site to the contractors, Uugwanga says no single person or a group of people registered with his office for voluntary labour by Wednesday.
He, therefore, urged members of the public to start performing voluntary labour at the railway line in the same manner they did during the just completed first phase (Tsumeb to Ondangwa) of the project.
The second phase of the railway line would cost about N. dollars 350 million and it is expected to be completed by 2008. ‘ NAMPA.
